A Four-Spotted Skimmer (Libellula quadrimaculata) is emerging. The larva has crawled up from the water and positioned itself in a good spot from where it will complete it's transformation. The skin on the neck and head has begun to beak.
this is picture number 1 in a series of 4 showing this transformation.

your film is in reverse! We arrive at the very first signs of a major event with this picture. I an assure you that few people have ever documented this early moment. My congratulations. The picture will be a classic, maybe not in TN but with the entomologists. My congratulations, Lars!
