[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hooded Crow, Corvus Corone Cornix is a bird about 44-51 cm long, weight is some 550 gram and wingspan about 84-100 cm. Feeds on worms, insects, birds' eggs, birds' chicks, small mammals seeds and any kind of edible waste it can get hold of. Will often empty the outdoor bins overnight in its search for edibles.
Hooded crow is supposed to be common in Denmark, but around here it's definitely not as common as the all-black rook. Generally, if there's a group of some 10 rooks digging for worms in this area, there may be a single hooded crow joining the party, but I've only ever seen two at the same time once in our immediate area.
Down by the lake you may at times come across some 4-5 at a time, but then always as the odd ones out in a bunch of hungry gulls. This, of course, makes them more interesting as targets ;-))
Like the rook the hooded crow is not very scared of human beings, so it's not so hard getting close to them. If they're engaged in eating, they often wait until you get pretty close before taking off. I came across this photo from last year when rummaging through older files, and I quite like the way the pattern is showing on his grey feathers. He was one brave crow, this one, as he was outside his own natural element. You see, I'd gone down to the flooded field by the lake in order to shoot gulls, and for that purpose I'd brought along a tin of cat's food which I dished out where I wanted the gulls to fly to. As the gulls prefer water to terra firma for food-diving, I'd placed the food on a tuft of dry reeds but with water all around. Gulls will, of course, just ride on the water, should they take a dipping, but this chap is not a swimmer, so had he been forced into the water by the hungry gulls, he'd have been in serious trouble. Despite this, however, he was holding his own and managed to get himself a square meal ;-))

Very good photo.
Beautiful composition.

Great Bente.
Very good exposure, colours and details.
Great note too.
Very well done.

Very good shot of the crow Bente. Lovely composition. Good details. Very nice.

I like this very much, Bente. The exposure and color saturation is wonderful. I saw one of these fabulous birds when I was in Danmark.

It's great, sharp shot. Did You use a lamp? Every detail is good visible

Good color, composition, DOF and light. Great capture overall, Bente. Perhaps your excellent note has influenced me, but I see something fairly agressive in his stance.

Good colours, composition and details of the crow. He is very clear. Reading your story, I'm pleased he did get a good meal from you - payment for the photo, no doubt. Well done Bente.

Sis Bente
You were trying to drown the poor bloke. I know they can be troublesome, but that was not a nice move . . .
On the other hand, you got a mighty decent picture of him in his wet-look tuxedo, so, if he wasgame, let him take the consequences.
Very nice handling of the B&W here, I love the plumage detail
Post some more, you are very scarce - still nose in the archives?

Great capture Bente. He is really looking a little nervous so close to the water. Very good handling of the light showing so many details in the black areas.

Well, he showed you all right :) I must say that you captured excellent detail on both black and white very good. Talking of the whites. Are there whites this shade, or is it because of him being whet (Ive never seen a whet crow before).

Good sharpness and composition as well.

Excekllent job and thanks for posting

Unfortunately, we don't have these here. Looks like a powerful bird, with a resolute pace and a fierce attitude. I definitely like how you captured it in this unusual environment. Superb feathers hues and texture. A great shot, Bente... and thanks for the tip about using cat food!

Looks like our crow but with a different plumage, more colorfull.
The sharpness is excellent. One can even see the splashes which it makes while walking in water.
I like very much your narrative and alive note.
Thanks for sharing...and a Wonderfull New Year to you!
