[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the European Peacock Inachis Io. There's no mistaking this butterfly with the 4 "eyes" on the wings for another species. Females are a bit bigger than the males and have yellow in and around the "eyes". Males have a bit more pointed wings than the females. Wingspan 54-59 mm.
Where other butterfly species may have more than one generation in a year, the Inachis Io has only one. The new generation will hatch from mid July till late August. These butterflies winter and may then be seen from late March and onwards, depending on the weather. This photo was taken in spring, as I haven't seen any of the new generation yet. They should start showing soon, though.
Treatment: Crop, brightness +5, contrast +10, saturation +10, USM and resize.
