Brown bear Ursus arctos as seen in the Scandinavian Wildlife park at Nødager when visiting with Mogens and his neighbour. We were told that the park has a litter of 5 cubs from last year (10 months old, I think they said). Of these 4 are male, and just one female. These two youngsters were having a field day in the pool ;-))
Where to find them in the wild
Ursus arctos once ranged throughout northern and central Europe, Asia, the Atlas mountains of Morocco and Algeria, and western North America as far south as Mexico. They are now found in extremely small numbers from western Europe and Palestine to eastern Siberia and the Himalayan region, possibly the Atlas Mountains of northwest Africa, and Hokkaido. Northern North American populations in Alaska and western Canada remain fairly stable. Many populations in the United States have been extirpated, including those of the Sierra Nevada and southern Rockies.
One of the largest of living carnivores, brown bears are 1 to 2.8 meters in length from head to rump and their tails are 65 to 210 mm long. They are 90 to 150 cm tall at the shoulder and can tower at an intimidating height of 8 feet when standing upright on their hind legs. They range in weight from 80 to more than 600 kg. On average, adult males are 8 to 10% larger than females. Brown bears are extremely strong and have good endurance; they can kill a cow with one blow, outrun a horse, outswim an Olympian, and drag a dead elk uphill.
Brown bears in the wild can live for 20 to 30 years, although most brown bears die in their first few years of life. In captivity, brown bears have been known to live up to 50 years.

That's another excellent shot Bente! I really like it. The paw on the shoulder makes it look like a human type embrace, they look playful and I liek the way the fur has gone spikey from the water. Great note too.

Bente, this is a superb shot. The compo, the arm on the shoulder, the teeth. Great detail, great note too. One of my favourite shots now.

Thanx for sharing.

Excellent shot! It's amazing how large these bears are as cubs, I can only imagine how large they will get as adults. Great detail around the face and mouth.

In the Sauna & up to what? Bente, this is nice, I can even see the iris in the eye on the right.

very nice shot here, I like the two playful bears, very natural and fun pic

well done

What a lovely catch, Bente. Great timing to get this shot of the playful bears, and fun title. I like the detail in their coats, and the splashing droplets around them. Well done, and fine job on the note as always.

Brilliant shot Bente - even better than I could imagine from what you told me.

Colours, dof and cropping is just perfect - really a great job you did here and with a little bit of luck too.

Great composition and detail. I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of those teeth!

What an extraordinary capture, I love the brown bear, it is such a dynamic beast, they love to pose, I have seen them from the Carpathian Mountains of Romania to the frozen tundras of Denali in Alaska. Next stop, the Siberian taiga, to see one, I hope ... You really got the momet on this one ! Congratulations !

You can get that close wow! When I was in jr. high, I went to yosemite (about 44 years ago). The bears wandered amonst the tourists, sometimes not so good.... One went into a freind's cabin when he left the door open. He went out the window.

Oh la très belle photo!! J'aime la position des deux oursons car il faut être là au bon moment. La netteté, la couleur , la profondeur de champs sont parfaits. Tout est Ok. Félicitations.
