Description
The top of the Kuntivaara fell looks like another planet during winter covered with thick snow and ice.
The objects in the picture are actually trees forming fantastic shapes (did you find the elf already?)
Original image is larger but I used this crop to get a natural framing for the trees in the background.

Kuntivaara is fairly high, 481 m above sea level. It is located near the Eastern border, and from its top one has a breathtaking view to the fell tops in Salla, Iivaara in Southern Kuusamo and across the Russian border. The slopes of Kuntivaara are fairly steep, but there is a relatively easy access along a path leading to the top from the Eastern side (the length of the path being appr. 2 km). There is a Lappish kota-type shelter on the hilltop for rest and/or shelter. You can get to Kuntivaara from Kuusamo along Vuotunki road (8690); take the road to Särkiluoma after Jyrkänkoski (before Vuotunki village) and follow the signs for Kuntivaara. Source

Hi Shir,
What a stunning photo. The details in the snow are just amazing. The dark blue color of the snow with the grey sky and the great light are just perfect.

Hi Shir,

I think this is a stunning composition. I love the blue that the camera imparts to snowy images. It is quite beautiful. I guess if nature makes you endure long winters it is only fair that she give you such beauty in return.

Hi Shir,
A beautiful shot, the tonal contrasts are superb, I think this would work very well in BW also. Excellent detail and great composition. It's almost like some kind of alien landscape. Beautiful.

Adrian

That's a dwarf surely! Wonderful scene with great DOF, like the composition you chose, the gaze is directed effectively to the elf/dwarf in the background, and travels back to the one whose face is looking over the stone in the middle ground. I also found an ork to the left ;-)
Well spotted and captured beautifully. Straight to my favorites!
Regards,
Gabi

This is a stunning snow scene, Shir.
I love the different snow forms in the foreground, the mid-ground, and the background. They are all different in light, color, and texture, and they all have something to say.
A masterpiece. TFS. : )

Hi Shir!

Magnificent image. It's part nature, part abstract. Focus and DOF are excellent. Exposure couldn't be better with shadows and highlights full of details.

Amazing shot. Great subject and well rendered. My only suggestion would be to brighten it a bit to get it closer to the natural color.

Hey Shir,

Suddenly saw this picture in your collection. Super shot! Absolutely amazing. Nothing else to say :)
Well done
Kim

Stunning image! Very sharp and crisp and the blue tones work very well. Levels/exposure are very good, probably slightly darker than in real life, but that has brough out more detail.

Shir-

How could I have missed this fabulous image before? Favorites lists are so useful! Very helpful note (I would never have thought those strange piles of snow are actually trees).
