Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arguata) having a meal near wetland nature reserve Otajärvi (lake). The picture was shot using a car as hide. This is likely to be female as it was already heading back to wintering areas in the South. In the Northern breeding areas in Scandinavia the female leaves the male to take care of the eggs soon after they have been laid.

From RSPB website:

Family
Sandpipers and allies (Scolopacidae)

Overview
The curlew is the largest European wading bird, instantly recognisable on winter estuaries or summer moors with its long down-curved bill, brown upperparts and long legs. There have been worrying breeding declines in many areas largely due to loss of habitat through agricultural intensification. It is included on the Amber List as a bird with important breeding and wintering populations in the UK.

Where to see them
Around the whole UK coastline with the largest concentrations of found at Morecambe Bay, the Solway Firth, the Wash, and the Dee, Severn, Humber and Thames estuaries. Greatest breeding numbers are found in N Wales, the Pennines, the southern uplands and E Highlands of Scotland and the Northern Isles.

When to see them
All year round. Look in breeding habitat from April to July. Coastal numbers build up from July and reach a peak in January and February.

What they eat
Worms, shellfish and shrimps.

Pekka,
The shot is beautiful, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, I'd rate it 9 if not 10, but is the subject beautiful?
I, honestly, do not think so...But again, that's my perspective...;)
Thank you!

Hello Pekka,
You must been quite close in your car to get a fine sharp image of a Curlew like this.
The bird is nicely composed among the grass, the grassy BG being suitably blurred and the low POV is great.
Thanks for sharing this fine imgage,
Best wishes, Ivan
