Common Redshank
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) photographed in Rauma archipelago in the Kylmapihlaja Island. When it has youngs it always watches them sitting on top of a tall rock or a pole as in this case. From there it can spot any potential predator in time and warn the youngs that have time to seek a hiding place.
Redshank is one of the most common breeding wading bird on the Finnish coast and it breeds in the inland, too. The current status is about 8000 breeding pairs and the total number has declined about one third since the early 1980's.
The photo was taken through binoculars.
