[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A stand of Silver Birches (Betula pendula) in late Spring. The fresh bright green foliage filters the light in the sun and bring greenness to the trunks, too. Within 40 or 50 years the young Norway Spruces (Picea abies), seen at the bottom of the woods, will take over the Birches unless either the Spruces or the Birches are cut down earlier.

Silver Birch is Finland's national tree. Occasionally one uses leafy, fragrant boughs of Silver Birch to gently beat oneself in a steamy hot sauna. This has a relaxing effect on the muscles. In Finnish the boughs are called vihta or vasta.

Silver Birch is a widespread European birch, though in southern Europe it is only found at higher altitudes. Its range extends into southwest Asia in the mountains of northern Turkey and the Caucasus.

It is a medium size deciduous tree, typically reaching 15-25 m tall, exceptionally up to 30 m, with a slender crown of arched branches with drooping branchlets. The bark is white, often with black patches at the base. The young shoots are hairless and rough with small warts. The leaves are 3-6 cm long, triangular with a broad base and pointed tip, and coarsely serrated margins. The flowers are wind-pollinated catkins, produced before the leaves in early spring, the small (1-2 mm) winged seeds ripening in late summer on 3-5 cm long catkins.

What a delightful composition, Pentti.
I love those birches standing so straight and parallel to each other.
The designs on their trunks make for an interesting pattern.
The whites on the bark are well exposed, and there is a lot of depth in the shot.

The depth of this photo is amazing. This scene reminds me of a painter named Bev Doolitle. you should look her up.
