| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The European Peacock (Inachis io) was photographed on a cloudy day with low daylight.
The species is common throughout temperate region in Europe and Asia. In Finland the species is most common on the southern part of the country and absent from the north. It likes semi-open and often semi-urban environments, too: road and field sides, pastures, forest openings, parks, gardens and yards.
First Peacocks appear in the Spring in the last 3rd of April. Those have hibernated over the Winter. That generation lasts to the latter part of June.
The Second generation appears in the beginning of August and those may include vagrant individuals, too. The generation lasts to the latter part of September, but sometimes even much later.
In Finland the caterpillars feed on nettles (Urtica dioica).

I believe this the closest shot of this species on all of TN. I like the focus on the abdomen and head. The DOF is such that you still have good detail on the wings and the flower. And do I really have to say anything about color:)
Hi Pentii,
wonderful colors! And excellent sharpness in the focus point, maybe some more DOV could help.
Have a nice day
