[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Pygmy Owls nest box in the Winter. The owl is a very efficient vole hunter, but later in the Winter it may have difficulties with the hunting, because the snow becomes harder and the owl is small. It solves the problem by storing the dead voles in cavities like nest boxes like we put food in the refridgerator or freezer. You may find hundreds of voles in one box. This year the voles in the boxes have been mainly field voles as in the photo.

This image is one of the most unusual I've seen on TN. The note is exceptional- I've never heard of this aspect of pygmy owl behavior, despite my BS degree in zoology and more. This is what TN should be all about. Thanks.
