This photo I took with my tiny Panasonic DMC-TZ5 camera, kind of a snappy style. I was cross country skiing on the sea ice and spotted one dead fish on the ice. It had ended up there from the nets of fishermen and the seagulls had eaten it a bit.
It is not pretty, but life is not all about the pretty things. Sometimes we choose just to see the beauty around us and turn our head away from things not so beautiful or pretty. If we have an option, we'd rather look for a beautiful subject rather than the less beautiful, do we? I dont know what I'm exactly trying to say here, but life should also be seeing the "not so beautiful" around us. Should it?
The photo is not technically perfect or maybe not even close to good but I would really like to hear your opinion about this photo. What was your (honest) first reaction when you saw it? I really would like to hear it.COMMENT ADDED 20MAY And its kind of interesting as this photo seems to be viewed most and yet I've received only few comments... I'm interested why people have opened up and taken a look at this?
WORK DONE: cropped, sharpened a bit, adjusted colors which turned out to be difficult because of the white snow and the colors of the fish.. |

Hi Maj!
My first reaction was that this is really not nice to look at. It almost makes me sick. It's the harsh contrast to what we would nature and life to be: harmonic and beautiful. The reality is different, and I appreciate the fact that you remember us this. Here on TN we tend to show only the sweet and beautiful aspects. I personally never have shown an "ugly" scenery... I'm always searching for the perfect beauty in my eyes, knowing that this is an illusion...
But in our hard world it's sometimes necessary to live with illusions...
Many thanks for this arousing posting.
Kind regards
Markus

Hej Maj,
Welcome to TN!
Not a pretty sight certainly, but as you say death is also a part of nature.
This partially eaten fish was taken from a fine POV and the composition and light management of this image are well done. It looks like a Baltic Herring, but the ID is difficult to decide here.
Thanks for posting this and I look forward to seeing more from you!
Best regards,
Ivan
