[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Some days ago I visited my grand parents, they have a house surrounded by meadows, so I always see lots of insects when I visit her. Most of the times, I take my camera with me, and on this day it was no exception - I saw butterflies and many grasshoppers. But then I saw one big white flower covered with insects, you can see on my picture that there are four species on the flower (even if only two are in focus).

At the beginning, I didn't know the names of my insects, so I posted the picture on TN o get help, and guess what ? Within an hour I knew the name of my insects. TN is really a fantastic place. Thankyou for all of you who make this place living and so interesting.

At left, you can see a European Paper Wasp (whether Polistes dominulus or P. gallicus, I couldn' t decide which one). It is one of the more common and well-known species of social wasps in Europe.

The flying insect is an Ichneumon Wasp, probably from the genus 'Ammophila'. It is a solitary wasp, and it is also parasitoid, this means that they are laying their eggs into the body of living caterillars. When the larvaes hatch, they feed directly on the caterpillar, leading him to its death - quite horrible, when you think about it, but well, these are the ways of nature.

I wan to thank specially Greg (Red45), Ali (Alikox), Mariki and Haraprasan for their precious help. Without their help I would not have been able to identify my insects.

To finish, I just want to add that I had lots of fun on this insect-covered flower, it was a great moment, and I hope you'll enjoy looking at this picture.

Bonjour Valerie!

Superb picture, very interesting crowd of insects. Flying insect is some kind of wasp, upper part of body is real abdomen, lower - just legs :-) This is wasp which lays eggs in body of paralyzed insect and then larvae will eat after hatching. Look at 'sting' at end of abdomen [it is not sting but I don't know English name :-)]. Great capture my friend.

Very busy flower:)I think left one is paper wasp but no idea about the right flying one.It' s lovely capture with great DOF,lighting and composition.

A nice capture of this this flower with full of wasps. I think the wasp in flight is an Ichneumon Wasp and the wasp on the flower base is a common European paper wasp. Good composition and details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Excellent POV, beautiful composition, Valerie. The lights are wonderful and so smooth. Good exposure and lovely colours, too. Pardon me about the ID, but I like this very rare gathering...:))

C'est une superbe photo plein de vie, 4 insectes différents sur une seule photo ! Le petit insecte qui vole est un ichneumonidae femelle (ovipositor), il est en général très difficile d'identifier ces petites guêpes parasitoides. Excellente netteté. Superbes couleurs.

A super macro!
Impressive details in the insect or should I rather say insects, as you have a fine collection here...
The wasps around my place don't like to be photographed and I don't like to photograph them as they are way too aggressive!
