[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I didn't post for some time, for several reasons - firstly because there is nothing to take pictures of, outside (no snow, grey sky, rain, boring) and secondly because I was very very busy writing my book - almost finished now so I have more time for TN again.

This is a European Blackbird (Turdus merula) that I photographed in my backyard. It was both and easy and a difficult shot. Easy because we left many rotten apples on our apple tree so there are many birds feeding on them during the winter. Diffiuclt because the bird are very shy (we have seven cats at home) and I couldn't go close to them, no matter how patient I was. So I had to take the brand new lense I have bought not long ago, a 500mm Teleobjectif.

The quality is not perfect, because I didn't have my tripod with me and I had to with what I had under my hand (a stick), but also because I had very poor light and two young cats playing around me.

But the result is not so bad, I think, and as I do not have many bird pictures in my gallery yet I thought it could be nice to add it.

I hope you like it !

Hello Valerie,
Good point of view and a well balanced composition!
Always interesting to see birds in winter as they look more fluffy in the plumage...
Good DOF and the subject stands out well!
Greetings,
Pablo -

"...writing my book!" Well well well, good luck with publishing!

bonjour Valerie

malgrè la mauvaise condition d'éclairage la photo est très réussie
avec le téléobjectif de 500mm et seulement 1/125 secondes
de vitesse, excellente netteté et détails du merle, TFS

Hi Valerie, I'm not familiar with this bird, so thanks for the intro. Your composition on this one is good. I like a natural, yet uncluttered, setting and you have it here, with good colour and clarity on the bird, right down to the pupil in the eye, and nice handling of the background with your soft muting. The shot of the bird is just a little soft, but you have good clarity none the less. Hand held 500mm @ 1/125 (and while fighting off cats, is a tough act.

Thanks, John

Hi Valerie,
Beautiful shot with hand held technique. Lovely color clarity. The bright eye and orange beak caught my eyes. Wonderful to know that you also write a book.

Hi Valerie.
I understand you. We have such weather but I managed to find some sunny days and to take about 1000 pictures. Second, Fortunately, I have learned to combine a writing of books and photography but I am no longer a young boy. I hope you will write your book and take many spring photos.

Very cute picture of the nice bird and scenery. I like some softness of the image, delicate colours and perfect details and composition. The shot is sweet and pleasant for look. I see you use strange rare telelens. Let it brings you ma lot of nice impressions. My hearty wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Hola Valerie,
Me temo que tu libro esté sólo en francés y tenga que esperar para a que aparezca alguna traducción para poder leerlo.
La atmósfera de la foto es muy bonita y la pose y el punto de vista muy buenos.
Saludos cordiales,
José M.

Hi Valerie,

Nice European Blackbird, good POV but the focus is soft. Very good with your long tele.
I appreciate that you caught this fella with 500mm Teleobjectif and using a stick as monopod.
cheers,
/Tabib/

Hi Valérie,
I have to laugh at your explanation of difficult and the cats playing at your feet.
I think it turned out very good for the circumstances.
I also like to see the different species from other countries. I hope you will use your tripod next time.
Even without it, you did get good results on the eye. That is important for me in bird photography. TFS

Hallo Valerie
When I looked at the thumbnail of this photo, the red "lipstick" beak was very noticeable. I love the pose especially since the eye with its orange outline is so visible. I believe these birds have a lovely song that they sing, and would love to hear it at some time. I'm not familiar with this bird, and enjoyed the introduction to it. Thanks for sharing. If I may ask, what is the book you are writing about?
Kind regards
Anna

Hello Valerie,
Fine capture of a juvenile male Blackbird just gaining his adult plumage and he already has his orange bill. It is pretty sharp and nicely composed among the baranches of the tree where he is sitting. Good POV too.
Thanks for sharing this one and good luck with your book!
