ALECTORIS RUFA
Red-legged Partridge (UK) Rothuhn (D), Perdiz Roja (E), Pernice rossa (I), Rode patrijs (Nl)

BIOMETRICS
Size: 32-34cm, wingspan 45-50cm, weight: avg 500g.
Larger than the grey partridge, it has a large white cheek and throat patch, bordered with black. It has a greyish body with bold black flank stripes, and a chestnut-sided tail. Short wings. Red robust legs. It is largely found in France and Spain, and has been introduced to the UK from continental Europe

HABITAT
Open fields, occasionally open woodland, and on cleared sand and gravel workings. Also vineyards and occasionally hills and mountains. When disturbed, it runs more than it flies, up to the nearest protected spot. It's plumage colors serves as camouflage.

FOOD
Seeds, leaves and roots.

Non protected species.

Photographic facts: Taken early in the morning. Sunny. Two partridges were grazing in a young sunflower field. As I was in the shade, below the field level, they didn't notice my presence immediately. Focal lenght 400mm, spot metering, aperture priority. Shot and adjusted in RAW. Converted to JPEG. Opened in PSE, cropped, USM (120% @ 0,5), framed and reduced to site size. NeatImage.

never seen this bird before! beautiful shot! TFS!

Belle photo. L'angle de l'oiseau n'est pas parfait par contre, j'aurais aimé mieux l'angle inverse, donc le bec vers l'appareil. Par contre, le focus est excellent, et l'herbe floue au bas de la photo agit comme une sorte de cadre naturel. Bien fait!
