[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
With warmer weather, these critters come out now. Their favorite plant for resting, as many other insects, is nettle. This shot was taken in our marsh where there is a large variety of bugs and beetles. I was not able to identify this one precisely. It seems to be a variety of soldier beetle (heteropterae). It was on the top of a leaf without vegetation in front, thus very easy to catch on a full front POV.

Photographic facts
Taken early in the morning, very dull sky. Poor light, but natural. Monopod, distance 25cm. Manual focus. Shot and adjusted in RAW mode. USM (200-0.6-0)in PSE. My preference was to get the widest DOF, due to the lenght to cover (about 12 cm with antennae). So I choosed ISO 1600, allowing a smaller aperture. The little additional noise has been removed with NeatImage.

Fantastic macro shot, Jean!!!
But what an ugly bug!
I have never seen such colors on one before, it does look like a sci-fi sort of variety.
Excellent detail, lighting is good, and color amazing. The best is the POV. Well done and thank you for this posting!

Nice head on capture Jean.
Good composition and detail, could possibly done with a touch more DoF, but nice all the same.

Impressive shot jean with excellent detail on the head. Very well done.

Wow! What monsters we have in the sub-world of tiny creatures. Excellent capture, good detail and I just love the POV.

Great front-on macro with good details on the head and forelimbs. I like very much the POV, a very different perspcetive.

Great capture Jean,
Great POV, DOF and colours. The details are nice and sharp.
Nicely composed, thanks for posting, have a good weekend.

Great pose, Jean Michel.
Good balance of this critter. Nice colours, good details, nice POV and well composed.
Great work.

Hi J.Michel.
Great use of natural light. I am happy to see this use of ISO to get the maximun DOF, but againg surprised with the shallow DOF you get with F:11. The focus is just where it should be. Great details are seen here, and the composition is very strong. Thanks for sharing.

C'est du grand art.
Incroyable le grain que tu obtiens a 1600 ISO.
Avec mon D70 a 400 ISO je ne fais pas mieux.
Superbe.

Amzing POV. Really impressive. Stunning capture and the great usage of the limited DOF. Very well done.

Jean-Michel, pov here is a winner.

Excellent blurred bg and composition.

Sharpness is great too. The bug really seems to be threatening.

What a shot, what a bug! Pretty colors. Nasty looking fellow!
