[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Needless to say that this chap doesn't need high shutter speed to be portrayed :-).
Romans had a great taste for snails, and they were the first ones to create breeding farms.
The "Helix Pomatia" species (escargot de Bourgogne) is protected in France, as well as the smaller species "Helix Aspersa" (petit-gris). Both are appreciated by gourmets.
Today, picking is forbidden. Some you find in restaurants are coming from countries where it's still authorized, but also and more and more from breeding farms. Besides humans and pesticids, snails have many natural predators like hedgehogs, toads, some birds, and can even be attacked by insects.
The species shown is the largest. To give you an idea, I've posted a workshop.

Nice to see a snail face to face, for a change! Very good picture and the snail looks lovely, too.

Great picture. Good use of DOF. I like the way the shell is out of focus.
Focus on the snails head is great. I like the textures on the snail that you have managed to capture so nicely.
The shot is also slightly off centre, great.
The only comment i can add is that I find a little distracting is the one blade of grass in front of the snails face. But I also like it adds to the depth.
Great picture.
:)

Good detail and colour...unusual viewpoint and all the details make this stand out.

That's an excellent portrait Jean Michel. The colours and the sharpness are just amazing. Good perspective with the grass creating a good framing. Very well done. Thanks for sharing.

Great shot!
Perfect POV and composition, great details and light.
I always have problems with good focus on eyes while photographing snails. In your photo it is perfect.
I like it very much.

This is great! I like this alot. Lots of character and a superb POV. I liek the limited DOF here - really brings attention to the right places. Very well done Jean-Michel.

This is such a delightful point of view, Jean Paul! I really like how your depth of field adds mystery and intrigue to the snail. Lovely saturation throughout. Just a fun image!

Helix Pomatia... Proxima!

MPLP, cordialement,
Jean-Patrick

Great shot - not as easy as many would say :-) TFS! Michal

Another nice macro. Very nicely done capturing the snail from this POV. Pitty about the little grass sprout in the way.

Good DOF and composition, well done

Wow what an excellent POV. Straight on head shot and with great details on the snails face. DOF is great putting great emphasis in its head. Composition is awesome and colors natural. Love this shot.
