Wiki:
The 19-22 cm long European Starling must be one of the most familiar of birds in temperate regions, with its shiny black plumage spangled with white. Confusion is only likely in Iberia in winter, when it has to be distinguished from the closely related Spotless Starling, which, as its name implies, has less spotting on its plumage. Adult male European Starlings are less spotted below than adult females. Juveniles are dull brown, and by their first winter resemble adults but are browner especially on the head.

Starlings walk rather than hop. Their flight is quite strong and direct; they look triangular-winged and short-tailed in flight. In most of Europe, only the rarer and much paler Bohemian Waxwing shares this flight profile. This is a noisy bird uttering a wide variety of mechanical-sounding and melodic sounds, including a distinctive "wolf whistle." Starlings are also noted as mimics, like many of its family. In captivity, Starlings will learn to imitate all types of sounds and speech earning them the nickname "Poor-man's Myna".

très bonne série, celle-ci est très bonne dans la composition et dans les détails. Son bec ressemble à celui d'un manchot.

Beautiful portrait Annick. Lovely composition and so elegant! Wonderful sharpness and POV on the beak. You have caught really good light giving a great sheen on the Starling's feathers. Focus spot on. Excellent.

Bonjour Annick,
C'est un beau portrait où l'oiseau est superbement mis en valeur, par le cadrage et l'éclairage , sans qu'il pose.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Gérard

Hi Annick,
this photo is wonderful with those "V" shaped white coloured details on this birds' breast. We have these birds here in Canada, however they really are vermin as they kill off some of our native birds(eat eggs and steal nests),they were brought here to Canada some time during the 19th century by new comers to North America. The one bird here in Canada that has suffered the most is the very pretty little eastern bluebird,so I'm not crazy about these Starlings.A well done and detailed photo of the Starling. Bob

Hello Annick,
I missed many of your last posts too but I couldn't miss this one even (like I said to Neccip) if I don't have points left today). This is an EXCELLENT portrait of this Starling, in fact one of the best I saw so far. I love its pose, composition, details, exposure, everything. This is a classy and sophisticated post :) Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Annick,

Hi Annick

Another splendid capture from you!
I liked these last starling photos of yours very much and this one is really terrific as well.
It actually reminds me a bit of the "Pelican" shot you have - which is one my my favorites from TN.
The pose of the bird here is excelletn and the contrast with the BG is outstanding.
Also the details are exceptional and the lovely catch-light in his eye is gorgeous. Good definition on the feathers and the pattern from them and a superb composition all-in-all.

Bravo and TFS
