I did this picture last year in mountain. I was looking for flower, but nothing in autumn at 1500m... Suddenly, I saw a colored mushroom and it was my very first shot of fungi. I bought a book for ID and now I am mushroom hunter ;-)

---

Scientific name : Russula lepida or Russula rosacea.

---

Description : Russula Lepida is one of the most beautiful European Russula species : the delicate pink-red colours and the very matt, velvety surface of the cap, help to recognize it.
The flesh of Russula Lepida is remarkably hard.

Habitat : In the wood of leafy trees from June to October.

Confusions : possible with the Russula Emetica (which prefers pines) but also of other members of its family.

Edible : NOT, because its bad savour makes it unsuitable to eat.

---

Resized and framed in 800x600 for TN.

It is very nice to be your fist one, Christian. I am not very sure with this kind of Russulas, They are very difficult to ident. It look very much like this http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Europe/Spain/photo4960.htm I posted (note there is little light). I have searched a lot for it and it would be nice to confirm with this, I will look for it again. Thanks!

First but very nice Christian. Fungi are very hard to capture but your is good. Slightly OE but with good colours and composition.

This is a beautiful mushroom, Christian!
I am impressed with the detail and the terrific color which you have managed to capture for us to see. Well done and thank you.

I think this specie is neither Russula lepida nor Russula rosacea because both of them have to white gill; also the color and the surface are unusual.
