I saw this big red mushroom in the forest of Bouchet close to Annecy.

The scientific name : Cortinarius rufoolivaceus. Family : Cortinariaceae.

This beautiful species shows a variety of colours. When young it is greyish, but soon it turns vinaceous brown-red.

The flesh is bitter and I couln't find if this mushroom is edible...

Christian, Always love your work! Like the rust reds & browns in this one. I suppose a person could spend there entire life documenting/photographing the almost infinte number of fungi & mushrooms out there...

This has stuning colours, the trunk looks full of veins, and although it is old, it looks really healthy. This is very realistic, but maybe if you had cleaned a bit the top ;)
Nice to see more fungi, Christian.

Y continua la coleccion... otra agradable presentacion de una nueva especie.
Como siempre, buena agudeza, bellos tonos naturales y buen encuadre.

And continuous the collection... another pleasant presentation of a new species. Like always, good sharpness, beautiful natural tones and good frame.

Encore une belle photo de champignon, belles couleurs naturelles. La note qui l'accompage est bien, mais il manque une information: comestible ou non?

Edible or not, it is still beautiful. The sharpness and DOF in this shot is great. I like the composition too. Thanks for posting.

I'm sure it looks better than it tastes, Taz, it has beautiful "gilles", like a coral fish.

A very great macro picture, Christian, this mushroom is very lovely of colour, everything sharp and clear!
Thanks for sharing.

1st of all my book gives this a (SKULL & CROSSBONES)so one not to eat.
I am not too bothered about the leaves on top as they seem to stick as they come through the leaf litter.
It is very nicely detailed the gills are very nice.

Just looking back through your series of fungi I can see the great variation there is among them. Love the fleshy coloring and gills in this shot. Super.

You ar esetting the pace with this series Christian. Lovely photo. The colours are unreal. Detail tack sharp. Wonderfull to learn of them.

I think you found the "Grail". :)
