THis afternoon, I have found these little and funny mushrooms and I will eat them ;-)

---

English name : Puffball. Scientific name : Lycoperdon perlatum.

---

Description : alone, scattered, gregariously or in clusters ; in woods under hardwoods or conifers but also common along roadsides and in urban settings ; rarely on very decayed wood. Summer and fall in temperate regions, very widely distributed and common.

Fruiting body : Shaped like an inverted pear, with a fairly prominent stem and a roundish to flattened top, 2.5-7 cm wide, 3-7.5 cm high, dry, covered with white spines when young and fresh. The spines often falling away by maturity and leaving scars on the surface, by maturity developing a central rupture through which spores are liberated by rain drops and wind currents, white, becoming discolored and eventually sometimes brownish ; with a white, fleshy interior at first, later with yellowish to olive granular flesh and eventually filled with brownish spore dust.

Like many other puffballs, Lycoperdon perlatum is edible when young and fresh. The flesh of young specimens is white and fairly firm. Don't eat any specimens in which the flesh has begun to turn yellow or brownish.

Christian, you are really keeping up the standard you have set yourself and it's an excellent standard. Very nice work.

Oh very nice Christian so much detail and the white beautifully exposed. The name fits spot on but we call it a common puffball but thats common names for you.

Quel beau rendu!

Autre fois Bravo!.

Now I know why they call them Perlatum. Nice photo for the fungi gallery. I specially like the "mousse du sol".

Dear me just when I thought Id seen them all. Great shot Christian with no blown highlights. Fantastic texture on this one.

Christian - The "mushroom stalker"! devouring his catch no less!! ;-) Great detail, textures & you handled the exposure well. I like the small green fern-like plants at the base of your mushrooms. Are sure you're not dressing-up your mushroms for the camera?? :-)

Very nice image, Christian. You did well to preserve the whites in this shot. Very informative note as well.
