Common Name : Club Coral. Scientific name : Clavariadelphus truncatus.

Sporocarp : fruiting body club-shaped, simple, 4-13 cm tall, 3-6 cm wide, tapering to a narrowed base, lacking a distinct stipe and cap ; apex typically flattened or depressed at the center, the margin often raised and irregularly bumpy ; surface elsewhere more or less smooth to longitudinally wrinkled or grooved ; color pinkish-brown to orange-brown below, shading to yellowish-orange at the apex, whitish and hairy at the base ; flesh white to yellowish, firm when young, soft at maturity, darkening when injured ; odor mild, taste mild to sweet.

Sporess 9-12 x 6-8 µm, elliptical, smooth ; spore print pale yellowish-buff.

Habitat : scattered to gregarious on duff in conifer woods ; fruiting from late fall to mid-winter.

Edibility : edible with a sweet taste.

Nice picture of this fungus Christian - colours and dof are spot on but it is slightly overexposed on the top though leaving some details. I think I would have placed the fungus more to the left getting it out of centre but all over it is a pleasent picture followed by a very informative note.

encore une belle illustration de champignon, meme si ce n'est pas ma preferer la prise de vue reste nette et propre...apres c'est une question de gout ;)
j'ai envis de faire une encyclopedie visuel de tes champignons...haha

It looks like a club too - for use by Neanderthal elves? Very interesting, Taz, just a tad bright in the white, but thats minor.

Christian I always like your shots and this one is no exception. This one is a little overexposed on top of the fungi, not too distracting but you are usually Mr Perfect.

YEs, Christian. As mogens said bit bright at the top, but still a great post on a interesting subject. The variety of the fungi is fascinating. Unreal, never knew it.

Very well captured. The exposure overall is good, the whites on top is a bit on the hot side, I like the image. The sharpness is good and the DOF excellent.

You seem to know very well the fungi around your place. I hope I knew as much as you do about the ones I find here! I have plenty of nice one I cant post because I have no idea of them. This shot is very good except for the lack of details of the white parts, but I know how difficult is sometimes.

Tal vez por el colorido de la parte superior, seguramente es uno de los hongos que menos llama la atencion.
De todas formas, la composicion es muy buena y los valores de la misma son tambien, al igual que la nota.

Peut-être par ce qui est coloré de la partie supérieure, il est sûrement un des champignons qui moins de flamme l'attention.
De toutes manières, la composition les valeurs de de cette dernière est très bonne et aussi, tout comme la note.
