[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Botrychium lunaria is a species of fern known by the common name common moonwort. It is the most widely distributed moonwort, growing throughout the Northern Hemisphere across Eurasia and from Alaska to Greenland, as well as parts of the Southern Hemisphere including South America and Australia. This is a small plant growing from an underground caudex and sending one fleshy, dark green leaf above the surface of the ground. The leaf is 6 to 10 centimeters tall and is divided into a sterile and a fertile part. The sterile part of the leaf has 4 to 9 pairs of fan-shaped leaflets. The fertile part of the leaf is very different in shape, with rounded, grapelike clusters of sporangia by which it reproduces.

This unit is the biggest one I have ever seen and it was big enaugh to be able to be focused with the camera reflex and the objective of 100 mm from the ground. It measured about 20 cm, when they use to measure less than 10 cm. It’s a primitive pteridophyta like fern.

I forgot that yesterday post was the 300 (the day before yesterday, ‘cause yesterday I had too much work and I couldn’t answer all your comments), this 301 picture is dedicated to all friendly of TN. I love you all TN friends.

Hello Ferran,
What a brilliant capture of this beautiful Moonwort that surely is quite rare. What an impressive specimen you found! I love your composition, the beautiful green colours and the fine details. Well done!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Ferran,
excellent presentation of this exotic looking primordial fern that usually is growing rather tiny, and therefore simply overlooked. Composition is superb, gradual softness is increasing the images's threedimensional effect, gentle hues of green are a pleasure for the eyes. A presentation of high artistic qualities, reminding me of some of the clasical works of german artist photographer Karl Blossfeldt.
With thanks, and all my best wishes,
Peter

ciao Ferran!
