Huppe fasciée is a bird with the long slightly arched nozzle gracile, with a huppe érectile of reddish feathers to the black end, a back harlequin tinted of yellowish, an orange chest, finally a flight jerked and leaping.

Song: Huppe fasciée pupule, pupute.

Habitat: The standard habitat of Huppe, it is the scrap-metal with quickset hedges, thickets and orchards where it invests the hollow shafts, even the old walls or the buildings given up to nest there.

Behaviors: Visitor of summer (from April at September). Species much more abundant in the south of the Loire than in north. Winter until the south of the Sahara.

Nesting: Nest: It frequently occupies of old cabins of Peaks, but is often satisfied with an anfractuosity whose opening is reduced to a simple crack. It builds a rather simple nest: naked or simple vegetable remains cluster. Bridge: Clearly bridge April at June from 5 to 7 moderate gray eggs of brown and dotted lines of white; approximately 18 days incubation by the female only supplied by the male. The chicks fly away to 3 or 4 weeks. After the blossoming of eggs, the accumulation of the dejections of chicks spreads a nauseous odor, which facilitates the discovery of the nest.

Mode: Invaluable predator: nourishes especially larvae of coleopters, grasshoppers, locusts, butterflies, flies, spiders, towards, slugs, millipede. It excavates the least interstices of the barks, probes grass of the slopes to the research of the larvae of the cockchafer, the lucanus or
