| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This a quiet butterfly , and a very common species in France.
I can't precise the specie : pieris brassicae ( normally taller) , pieris manni , pieris cheiranthi , pieris rapae (if someone knows ...)
For the picture , I resize and lighten the colors and sharpened the head.
that's why i add différent informations :
-------------------------------------------
Southern small white (pieris mannii) :
Very similar to the small white (P. rapae) but there are some distinguishing features.
The upf black apical mark is more extensive and the unf black spot is flat or slightly concave.
Also the unh is less yellow and there is a dusting of grey scales around the cell.
It is not uncommon in southern France and these shots are second brood males (unsure about 83-16).
Canary large white (pieris cheiranthi)
Family: Pieridae
Flight Time: March - October
Size: 57-66mm
Altitude: 0-2600m
Notes: A close relative of the widespread Large white, Pieris brassicae.
Its isolation on the Canary Islands has led to a distinct species,
with much heavier markings as can be seen above. They were fairly widespread on Tenerife.
The larvae tend to stay together on the foodplant, in this case Cabbage from the greengrocers.
The greenish granule is the caterpillars excrement or frass.
Small white - pieris rapae
Family: Pieridae
Flight Time: March - November
Size: 46-55mm
Altitude: 0-3000m
Females have a pair of black spots on each forewing.
The undersides of the forewings are similar to upper surfaces, except for the abscence
of the black wing tips. The undersides of the hindwings are plain pale yellow.
Butterflies from pupae which have been subjected cold temperatures in winter
are much paler than summer forms from pupae that have stayed warm. |

Une trè belle composition avec des couleurs sobre et une bonne netteté.
Félicitation pour l'exposition et les couleirs juste et réelle.
Merci pour l'envoie !
Hi Christine
