[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found this rather interesting beetle foraging amongst the flowers of the sweet chestnut trees in my garden. It is slightly larger than the 'Bee Bug' Trachius fasciatus but looking very similar with its hairy body. I have spent a long time trying to find out what it is as I think it important to be as informative as possible for fellow 'trekkers'! The closest I have come to an identity is Valgus hemipterus, but I am not absolutely sure. Is there an 'expert' out there??? HELP please!

Very little PP work, just a slight crop and frame & resize.
Thanks for all your comments.

Bonjour, Morag!
Your beetle is so hairy -you've done a great job by bringing so much detail and sharpness with your shot. I have photoed a similar beetle and I have defined it after a thorough search as:
Class: Insecta
Order: Coleoptera
Family: Scarabaeidae
Subfamily: Cetoniinae
Genus: Oxythyrea

Though I have to warn you that I am a total amateur...
Best regards,
Anton

Hi Morag.
You have made a very colourful and well composed picture. You also particularly well managed to select DOF and POV, light and shadow. Sharpness and details are very good. BG is very impressive. TFS and regards.
Alexei.
