DAHU
The dahu is a small mammal living mostly in Dordogne area (France). It has been reported locally in small areas even distant from Dordogne.
The most strinking feature of the dahu is the large asymetry between right and left legs. Right legs are way longer. The territory of the dahu is one hill. They always walk counterclockwise around their hill. Their asymetry helps for that purpose.
DAHU HUNTING :
This is a tradition. No dahu is ever actually hurt. One guy will wait in ambush with a bag. This is a honor usually reserved to the younger fellow who has never heard about dahu hunting. All other people will start from the spot where the ambushed guy wait. They will walk around the hill counterclockwise. The dahu never leave its hill. It is actually very clampsy if it has to go uphill downhill or to walk on flat surface. So it always comes to the ambushed guy who can catch him easily. The dahu doesn't byte. It can't because the teeth are longer than the opening of its mouth, plus it is deprivated of any kind of aggressivity. Folowing the hunt, a party is hold with lot of drinking and laugh. The bag holder is the center of all conversations.

Hello Jean-Marie,
A wonderful creature you have discovered and photographed with fine skill.
Remains of the Dahu have been found in Sweden before it became extinct with the coming of the Ice Age, when it could not move well in the snow and soon became the prey of wolves.:))

Le dahu existe aussi chez nous, seulement son aspect diffère un peu du tien :-)
Bonne idée de nous faire sourire. Mais j'aimerais quand meme savoir quel animal est à la base de ta création? Un chien ou quelque animal empaillé?

How interesting that you should come upon this remarkable legendary creature on the very first day of April!
I was under the impression though,that Duhu were slightly more goat-like....
this one appears to have,er,how shall I say it .... canine features, n'est ce pas?
It looks lke a fun creature though.

This is a wonderful picture of an extraordinary biological specimen. The tradition of the dahu hunting technique and celebration of the bagholder's participation is also very special. It reminds me a great deal of snipe hunting, which is popular in some parts of the US (probably for the same reasons as dahu hunting in France).
Another observation for you and also LordPotty- I heard somewhere that early dahu relatives lived in New Zealand, but that their leg asymmetry was reversed (likely due to reversal of the Coriolis effect). Is this true Steve?
