[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A strange fly indeed for today : Cephenemyia stimulator. Its larva lives in the nose and throat of roe deer and other wild animals of the cervidae family. It is found mainly at higher altitudes. Several of them were roosting on this big, lichen-covered, rock outcrop at the top of a hill. Obviously (and fortunately) , they are not interested in humans, and we could peacefully picnic on that rock, enjoying the surrounding Auvergne scenery.
As you may guess, this is not a frequent encounter. The size is approx. 15 mm.

Very good macro with very good details, I tried to reduce the blue tones in your picture that are the result of photographing in shadows, I am sending a workshop.

You know it Philippe I am a fan of good macro shots. Well this is almost a perfect one I like the details in this shot. the colours are fantastic, and the pof and the dof are great. Only one thing, a little turn of the insect, good job Philippe

An amazing macro (tried one myself today on a ladybird, was unsuccessful!). Incredibly sharp. IMHO I would have prefered a horizontal flip...
Brilliant, thanks for sharing.

Good capture and id of this unusual Bot-fly, DOF looks a fraction shallow but otherwise it is well seen, I can not say any more than that because there is no shooting details to work from. TFS

Bravo pour cette capture, jamais vu ce genre d'insecte avant cette photo, belles couleurs et détails, mais pourquoi ne pas avoir centré un peu plus le sujet?
