Excellent sharp capture of the caterpilar of the Garden Tiger Moth (Arctia caja). This caterpillar is sometime known as the 'woolly bear'.
Fine detail, compo., contrasting BG.

Edith my dear ,
as much as it's a wonderfully shot macro, this one gives me a chill down my spine..for anything similar to this found here in India is one that can give u a bite so bad that soon u will have red swelling skin all over with itching that can tear u apart...
yes, rightfully they 're found under/between beams, or sometimes they can just fall off a tree or any place high if u happen to stand any where under them!!!and in my hometown they 're called the itchingworm...i tried to find out the scientifc name but wasn't able to ...some other time...

This is perhaps the first time after i started photography that i am seeing and appreciating the beauty of an "itching worm".... well if this one's actually one or maybe it's caterpillar in ur region!!!

A steady, well composed shot because the subject wasn't going anywhere, Edith :-)!
The hairiness of the caterpillar despite the light BG is more than evident. The layers of colours on the body with those uniform white polka dots bring out the character of the subject admirably well.
