I have a camera which is not very practical to take animals, especially insects, the autofus is very slow and the manual adjustment it is a true horror, but as I very wanted to have a butterfly in my gallery, I literally shot all the butterflies which passed on the bits of lavender at home, approximately 250 catches in a half hour (!) for about fifteen quite good photographs (that would be good I buy a macro zoom which adapts on my objective...
my technique resourcefulness: to block the focus at the minis and the speed with maximum, if not: no chance...
of the blow, obliged to put to me at the same distance from the subject while moving (1.20 meter approximately with the zoom at maximum bus more close it is turbid, from where utility of a complement of objective to be able to take more closely, while waiting... that's the better i can do...)

Beautiful shot...is it a cabbage white/white checkered? Kinda looks like it.
This is a beautiful photo - very lovely, almost romantic colors.
And of all things, FRENCH LAVENDER! Perfect! :)

Hi Jonathan,
I think you did well. This is a great capture of this image. You now have a superb looking Butterfly in your gallery. The detail is wonderful and the Lavender looks great too. Nice DOF. Well done it was worth it.
Cheers,
Debbie

I too have a Panasonic camera and I know exactly what you mean. It can test one's patience. This one came out quite good. It is a lovely, simple composition with good color and sharpness.

Bonjour Jonathan,
Michel

given the constraints it's a good shot. i'd crop closer to the butterfly and try to sharpen the butterfly a bit. colors are nice

workshop is oversharpened due to the need to enlarge the image back to 800pixels. but you could apply a little blur to get the focus you want.

Hi Jonathan,
Splendid shot of this butterfly. Very impressive sharpness and soothing colours with fine focus. I like your POV to display that upper wing and still the entire body is clearly visible. Superb pose captured. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Jonathan, Very nice shot and lovely composition. The butterfly stands very good on the frame. Ganesh

Hi Jonathan.
Thank you for visiting, interest and kind words.
You have taken a very nice, pleasant to eyes and skillfully done shot. Its subject is simply and at the same time beautiful. Three parallel charming plants and very cute butterfly create a wonderful composition. Delicateness of the light and colours are great as well as the details and sharpness of the main subjects. My compliments and best wishes.
Alexei.

Bonjour Jonathan,

Bonjour Jonathan.I know exactly how you feel about the camera limitations. I spent hours on a friend's farm trying to photograph butterflies and dragonflies on autofocus. Every blade of grass in the way made it go crazy, making it impossible to focus. I told a friend about it and he said to put it on manual. I tried it the next day and it works well on a resting subject like a butterfly. When I tried it on ducks on water, it was nearly impossible to get a clear shot of that special moment. All things considered, it is a fine composition with beautiful harmony of colours. Regards. Klaudio.
