The Damselfly

Vernacular name: Mediterranean Caloptéryx.
Scientific name: Calopteryx haemorrhoidalis.

The Damselfly (Suborder Zygoptera) is an insect in the Order Odonata. Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base, caudal to the connecting point at the body. Damselflies are also usually smaller, weaker fliers than dragonflies, and their eyes are separated.

The Damselfly are insects (Insecta), subclass of the pterygotes (Pterygota), infra-class of paleopteran (Palaeoptera or Paleoptera), order of the odonates (Odonata). They constitute the sub-order of the zygopteres.

Hi Joel

Great capture - the detail is wonderful and the light is excellent - it makes the damselfly 'jump-out' of the shot.

bonjour joel

Hi Joel,
What a beautiful damselfly you have captured. Nice details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Joel, splendid damselfly with wonderful details, excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

eh salut joel

Bravo
Claude
