The black-crowned night-heron is a trapu bird with a wide head, a thick and short neck, and short legs.
In period of reproduction, the adult has two long white feathers on the nape of the neck The beak is sharp and black. Eyes are red.
Both sexes are similar, but the female is slightly smaller than the male.
The night-heron lives near lakes, swamps and rivers lined with dense vegetation. It nests and sleeps in trees.
It is a night bird, feeding on twilight at dawn. It remains standing without moving, waiting for the passage of a prey which it catches with its beak. It is also known to visit the nests of the other herons and steal the chicks.
It feeds mainly on fish, but also on earthworms, and on aquatic and ground insects. It also consumes shellfishes, amphibians, reptiles, small rodents, birds, eggs, carrions and vegetables. |

Salut Servane,
Très belle photo! Focus et détails parfaite. Couleurs naturelles. J'aime particulièrement la pose de cet oiseau et le petite «mèche de cheveux» qui lui pend sur la nuque! Celà ajoute un plus à cette superbe photo.

Bonjour Servane, il est superbe ton Bihoreau Gris, excellent piqué, belle composition et excellent décor et background. Mais je ne crois pas que ce soit un mammifère...;-) héhéhé ta photo est classée dans mammals ! :-) Merci pour cette magnifique image.
