[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I spent a week taking a digital underwater photography course in Tahiti and Bora Bora. I got a good number of deep shots of reefs, sharks, fish and so on. But my favorite is probably a series just below the surface where I photographed these giant green sea turtles. On one of the atolls encircling Bora Bora is the Le Meridian Resort. It's pretty swanky and all, but what makes it different is that they have a protected lagoon where they have a captured breeding program for turtles and eventually return them to the sea. It's awesome. You snorkel in the lagoon with dozens of these huge 400-pound turtles. They just go about their business and don't seem phased at all by humans' presence. Compact cameras work well here since there's hardly any blue-shift so close to the surface, so strobes aren't necessary and PP white balance is quick 'n easy with RAW files.
