POLYGONATUM VULGARE.
(Liliaceae, same family as Lilies of the Valley and Bluebells)
Rhizome is used as a medicinal plant. Astringent. Powdered root used as poultice for inflammations.

COMMON NAMES: Solomon's Seal, Sceau de Salomon, Faux muguet.

IDENTIFICATION: Perennial plant growing in deciduous woods. Stem from 30 to 50 cm high, with alternate sessile leaves. White flowers in May and June, usually solitary, stalks axillary ; black berries. Rhizome cylindrical, about half an inch diameter, transverse ridges, slightly flattened above, circular stem scars at intervals. In Normandy, they come out just after bluebells.
The rhizome gives birth every year to a twig that will fall in Autumn, forming a circular scar of the shape of a seal, hence it's name.

PHOTOGRAPHIC FACTS
These plants grow in dense woods, where there is generally not enough light to bring out the details and the colors. This one was on the side of a path, in a sunpatch. Ideal conditions, like an artist on a stage, highlighted with just one spot above, and a dark environment around. No flash, handheld.

Hi J.Michel. This one is new for me, never seen it. I like the contrast with the backlight and the background, although I would preffer some more detail of the flowers, I understand is difficcult with this horizontal framing. Very useful info, thanks.

Very good shot!
I know them well, cause there is planty of them in my forest and I have even some plants in the shadowy part of my garden. I like them very much.
The photo is very good, the light on the plant looks great, but I would maybe leave a bit more space from below.
Anyway, you did a good job on this.
Well done!

Belle et intéressante composition macro-photographique bien réalisée pour cette plante pas vulgère du tout ;-). Jolies couleurs sur fond sobre et bonne netteté.
Very Well Done !

Good post, Jean.
The backlight is superb, although the flowers are burn. The Bg is very good and the sharpness is very well.
Good photo, well done!

Such a pretty, and well presented image, Jean.
You have made good use of the lighting here. Interesting detail, POV and BG. Thank you for a lovely composition.
