Pyrochroa coccinea black-headed cardinal beetle (family Pyrochroidae)
This distinctively-coloured cardinal beetle has a somewhat flattened shape and comb-like antennae. The adults are usually found on flowers near the edges of woods. The carnivorous larvae live underneath dry bark, where they eat other insects

It not very common to see flying insect on photograph. Great sharpness on head, nice colours and composition.

Hi Didier.
Once more great in-flight insect shot. I cannot imagine how to get such shots. Great technique of shooting and exposure parameters. DOF s perfect as well as the blurriness of the BG and composition of the shot. My congratulations.

Hi Didier,
you did it! I tried to catch a cardinal in flight myself, I choose a cool day, but all to no avail. Beautiful, it's a beetle in action not just sitting around and doing nothing. Of course you have some better picturs of flying beetles in your gallery, but never mind. Well done, Didier.
