Le Flamant rose (Phoenicopterus ruber) est l’espèce de flamant la plus largement répandue.
Deux sous-espèces sont reconnues :
* Phoenicopterus ruber roseus et
* Phoenicopterus ruber ruber. C’est un grand oiseau (120 à 140 cm et 3,5 kg maximum), proche parent du Flamant du Chili, avec lequel il est parfois considéré comme conspécifique.
