Melitaea parthenoides(Keferstein, 1851)
Westelijke parelmoervlinder:

Beschrijving:
De westelijke parelmoervlinder komt voor veel verschillende soorten open grazige plaatsen met veel bloemen langs bossen. Zowel droge als matig vochtige plekken zijn geschikt. De voornaamste waardplanten zijn Plantago (weegbree) soorten, met name Plantago lanceolata (smalle weegbree). De eitjes worden in groepen op de onderkant van de bladeren gelegd. De rupsen eten en overwinteren in groepen en leven gezamenlijk in een spinselnest. Pas in het laatste stadium gaan ze uit elkaar. Voor de verpopping zoeken ze een veilig plekje aan de waardplant dicht bij de grond. De westelijke parelmoervlinder vliegt meestal in twee generaties per jaar. Op koele vliegterreinen komt slechts één generatie voor.

Sub-alpien grasland
Droge zure graslanden
Droog kalkgrasland en steppe
Matig voedselrijk grasland

Melitaea athalia
Melitaea britomartis
Melitaea aurelia

Verspreiding:
Een soort van ZW-Europa. Komt voor op het Iberisch Schiereiland behalve Z-Portugal, Frankrijk behalve het noordoosten, de Zwitserse Jura en Schaffhausen, de Ligurische en Cottische Alpen in NW-Italië en lokaal in Z-Duitsland. Vliegt van 400 tot 2500m.

Vliegtijd:
mei, juni, juli, augustus, september.

Status Europa:
Soort is thans niet bedreigd in Europa.

Status Benelux:
Niet in de Benelux. Zuidwest-europese soort. Dichtstbijgelegen populaties onder andere in Elzas en Zwarte Woud.

this is a beautiful composition with delicate colours for both the flower and butterfly which have very good field of depth and a crisp focus taken in a muted light that gives a softness to the image; which in turn gives the feeling of the gentleness of the two.Well done and thanks for sharing this fine photo with us.
