Citroenvlinder (Gonepteryx rhamni)
/Familie:
Witjes (PIERIDAE)

Kenmerken:
Voorvleugellengte: 27-30 mm. Deze citroengele vlinder heeft aan de voorvleugel een puntige vleugelpunt; aan de achtervleugel bevindt zich halverwege de achterrand een duidelijk puntje. Het vrouwtje is bleekgeel of soms bijna wit. De onderkant van de vleugels is groenachtig van kleur.

Voorkomen:
Een algemene standvlinder die verspreid over het hele land voorkomt.

Habitat:
Vooral zonnige plaatsen in open bos en langs bosranden, struwelen op braakliggende percelen en houtwallen in landbouwgebieden; ook parken en tuinen.

Waardplanten:
Sporkehout en wegedoorn; vooral jonge struiken op open zonnige plaatsen.

Vliegtijd en gedrag:
Eind juni-begin oktober en na de overwintering van begin februari-begin juni in twee generaties.

Levenscyclus:
Rups: half april-eind juni. De rups rust langs de middennerf van een blad en is daardoor moeilijk te vinden. De soort overwintert als vlinder in struikgewas of dichte graspollen.
