Hello Everyone,

Today, I am posting what to me is a very rare sight. This is a wild flower meadow. Isn't it just beautiful!

This had been puposely grown in the French town of Paimpol. I must applaud our French neighbours for such a sensible attitude in this age of single crop farming, insecticides and artificial fertilizers.

These flowers were alive with insects.
I hope you enjoy gazing at this as much as I did.

I would normally add a border to my photographs but felt, in this instance, it looked more 'natural' without one.

Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to add feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-)

pp just sharpened.

Nick..

Very nice Bev...Lady Bird Johnson would have loved it..she flowered all of Texas with wildflowers..mostly certain varieties in some places but you have lost of things here...a clearly big pallet!

Hello Beverley,

You are right, this is very beautiful. They have done this also in the town Binic (also in the Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne) just to help the insect "population" to grow up. Good sharpness and superb colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

I love widflowers and especially cornflowers as we know them here. This is a lovely simple and yet beautiful shot.

Hi Bev

L0vely shot - really beautiful colours with nice detail. I am pretty sure that they used a pack of mixed seeds though - the Californian poppy is not native to Europe. ;)

James

Nice shot. Also interesting documentation about the French agricultural policy.

I must say that they've grown those flowers in a few places around. I see it a a joke or a failure. There are few insects in those flowers fields. For years there were crops in there, there are only crops around, and they will be crops next year. There are just no place that can provide a bug source to colonize the flowers. And if there would, they'll be all killed by the crops growing next year. Also The flowers they grow are not really the ones our insects eat. Much caterpillars live only on a few plant species.
Places where I really saw bugs in quantity, were piece of ground left without farming because of a trial between the owner. For 10 years! No one may use the ground before the answer of the judge. No fancy flowers there. Mostly grass and insignificants flowers. Yet bugs got their chance to survive every year there. The plants they live on too. Bugs are numerous there and the variety of species is very wide.
That is what bugs really need.

Nice shot.

Hello Beverley,
How beautiful this meadow looks, just amazing to see such a colourful natural corner. It looks like a paradise-garden. I have been to Paimpol too, but not in the same season. Very nice, the Bretagne!
Thanks and best regards
Anne
