[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Starlings are very special birds. They can imitate other birds and different sounds like telephones, car horn... They are fast, walk nervously, and fly in a kind of wavy movement.
Normally, they are seen in cultivated fields, in very large groups of hundreds of birds devastating cultures. At sunset, they gather in the trees, up to large cities. Never leave your car under these trees if you don't want to spend time and money to clean it!
Cherries are one of their favorites food in spring. If you have starlings in your region, forget about eating cherries if you don't take the proper measures. In fact, they don't really eat them, they just pick a few times with their sharp-pointed beak, and so on.
----------------
I took this shot by luck, as I was observing birds on the river, leaning against a wall. Just behid, there was a cherry tree and lot's of birds movement, in and out. I caught them just when they passed the wall and before they noticed my presence.
Generally, the camera is set in "creative mode", aperture or shutter priority according to the subject. These modes allow RAW files. Lens IS is set on 1.
When a non expected subject (like here) comes suddenly, I move quickly setting to "sport" mode and the IS to 2 if panning is required. Camera will choose the highest speed, according to the available light, and will set ISO value at 400. Sensors will focus on the nearest subject.
----------------
More on starlings on two very good bird sites:
- En Français : sound file available.
- In English.

Excellent! It almost seems a 3D pic with the DOF like that. Composition is spot on, it is tack sharp where it is supposed to be.

This one belongs in my favorites .. definately.

This is a winner Jean!

This is wonderful capture Jean. It looks like three dimentional. Excellent composition with sharp details and fine blue BG.
Very well done.

Great flight-in, Jean Michel.
Very nice formation flight, well composed, good details and good exposure.
Great work.

Great clone job here.. eeeh, the wing position is not identical ;-)) Impressive how the two in-focus birds hold their heads in exactly the same position. Also a great feat to get "two birds with one stone", so to speak. Nice one!
