What a fantastic capture of an interesting Fungus, Valerie! It is so well captured I feel as if I am taking a close peek at it with my own eyes. Super camera work, and that too while you were unsteady on your feet.
Enjoyed reading your story. We nature photographers surely look nuts to 'normal' people, isn't it? :)
I wish you all the best on your holiday and look forward to seeing your new pictures when you come back.
Have a safe journey!

Hello Valérie,
A fine gill-surface capture of this fungal species growing on some tree trunk. The sharpness and colours should enable some mycologist to give this an ID, but I can't find it in my book
I wish you and daniel a great holiday in the S. of france and look forward to seeing your pics1
All the best,
Ivan

You had me worried there Valerie!
I thought you might be leaving TN
I'm glad youre not.
This is an absolutely fantastic shot although I'm not certain what it is.
It looks as though it could be a rather old Pleurotus of some kind but I could be wrong.
Someone else from Europe is more likely to know as we have different species here in New Zealand.
I hope you have a great holiday in Langudoc-Roussillon.
The Gorges Du Tarn are very similar to our limestone gorges here on the coast (see my photo here).
There may be some caves there you can visit.
Look forward to seeing your photos.
Have fun.

Ciao Valerie,
Amicalement
Ciao Maurizio

Hy Valerie
When I saw the title, I was scared: another that is leaving? No, please! I never took pictures to mushrooms, because I considered them not "beautiful subjects" to shoot. But for example this, in this picture, I like it. The POV adds a plus to the picture. Well done and have nice trip tho south France!

Hi Valerie.
First of all I wish you nice trip to the South France. Second, you have shared a very impressive fungi picture. Especially I like selected POV and brilliant reproduction of the main subject and texture of the trunk. Composition of the shot is not ordinary and very attractive. Best wishes and come back here with lots nice shots.
Alexei.

Bonjour Val,
First of all have a nice time on Your holiday! You're right, this is a beautiful specie and You had a real fight to manage to capture this bunch. Photographically seeing a good shot, but not Your best one, due to the oof foreground (You should have hidden it with a sign, for example) and the grainy bg (no PP was done I guess). But You know, this is my paranoia. :) I give the 2 points, because I'm in "happy mood" mode now: a few hours ago I found a fungus specie in the city park which was new to me - the 31th specie which I already detected in that park.
I hope You'll read this comment and will go to holiday with knowing who is on Your photograph: Omphalotus olearius, the 'Jack-O-Lantern mushroom', unmistakable due to the color of the gills and the cap + the substrate (rotting broadleaved).
Best regards from Hungary, László

Philippe

Hi Valerie,
yeah, you would never miss the chance to get the best point of view of something that has caught your interest and made you curious. Funny story of how you took that picture in the slippery slopes of Wasigenstein.
Well composed, well lighted, well detailed image, perfectly describing a large fungus that seems to be:
Pleurotus pulmonarius (Löffelförmiger Seitling),
considered to be edible and of good taste.
Hope you had a nice adventurous summer.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
