Yesterday evening I didn't post picture on TN because I was in Semnoz Forest and I found 3kg of this big mushroom.

English name : Shingled Hedgehog, Scaly Tooth. Scientific name : Sarcodon imbricatus or Hydnum imbricatum.

Caps are 5-20 cm across, convex to flattened with a central depression and covered with coarse, dark brown zonate scales on a pale brown background.

Spines are up to 1 cm long and whitish to tan becoming brown. Stalks are up to 8 cm tall, central to off-centre and hollow.

The flesh is white and hard. Edible but not famous...

Widespread but not common, it fruits under hardwood/conifer woods. Season : July to November.

Canon Ixus 400 in mode : macro-auto-spot. No flash, no tripod.
Slightly cropped and resized for TN.

Note : It would have been better without the tree behind...

Christian the mushroom stalker!! ;-) With the top of this mushroom the center of your focus you've given the viewer a good macro showing this texture very well. Thanx for the notes on this also..

Very good Christian.
Good sharpness with good details and nice colours.
Good note
Well done.

Great shot again Christian, this has real depth and I'm amazed at how well the textures are captured.

Good work. Thanks for the note.

Christian, I do not know were you get all this lovely specimens. I don't think I have seen any of these fungi you posted before. It's fascinating stuff. You get the textures, details and sharpness evertime. Well done.

Beautiful job on this Christain. I like it.

You have very nice mushrooms around Christian, is there a lot of "fungi culture" where you live? You published very nice ones till now. Thanks.

It almost has the same texture as popcorn. You captured this very well with good DOF and sharpness. Thanks for posting

Great texture captured here Christian. You must live in a land full of mushrooms . I never know there was so many! Great post.

A nice shot.
Good sharp detail and great textures.
Great work and note, very well done.
