there are a bit noise in the BG and the white wings are perhaps a bit too bright, but this shot was very difficult to shot and i am proud of it

at first i have thought, it's a Large White but IVAN ( Argus ) have said it's a Small White, so i have changed my note

i hope you will excuses my mistake

Small White
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Small White (Pieris rapae) is a small- to medium-sized butterfly species of the Yellows-and-Whites family Pieridae. It is also commonly known as the Small Cabbage White. The names "Cabbage Butterfly" and "Cabbage White" can also refer to the Large White.

It is widespread across Europe, North Africa and Asia and has also been accidentally introduced to North America, Australia and New Zealand where they have become pests on cultivated cabbages and other mustard family crops.

In appearance it looks like a smaller version of the Large White. The upperside is creamy white with black tips to the forewings. Females also have two black spots in the center of the forewings. Its underwings are yellowish with black speckles. It is sometimes mistaken for a moth due to its plain-looking appearance. An adult's wingspan is roughly 32--47 mm (1.25--2 in).

Life cycle

In Britain, it has two flight periods, April–May and July–August, but is continuously-brooded in North America, being one of the first butterflies to emerge from the chrysalis in spring, flying until hard freeze in the fall.

Its caterpillars can be a pest on cultivated cabbages, kale, radish, broccoli, and horseradish but it will readily lay eggs on wild members of the cabbage family such as Charlock Sinapis arvensis and Hedge mustard Sisybrium officinale. The eggs are laid singularly on foodplant leaves.

Traditionally known in the United States as the "Imported Cabbage Worm", now more commonly the "Cabbage White", the caterpillars are green and well camouflaged. Caterpillars rest on the undersides of the leaves, thus making them less visible to predators. Unlike the Large White, they are not distasteful to predators like birds. Like many other "White" butterflies, they hibernate as a pupa. It is also one of the most cold-hardy of the non-hibernating butterflies, occasionally seen emerging during mid-winter mild spells in cities as far north as Washington D.C.

Like its close relative the Large White this is a strong flyer and the British population is increased by continental immigrants in most years. Adults are diurnal and fly almost exclusively during mid-day, though it appears as if there is some activity in the later part of the night too, ceasing as dawn breaks.

This is a fine capture of a Large White, Jacqueline.
The wings are almost fully open and that brown coloured patch at the wingtip with an eye-spot nearby looks very charming.
The green leaf suits the subject by way of the BG.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Jacqueline,
this a good view of the Large White and it looks pretty much like the butterflies we have here where I live, named cabbage whites.I have in recent times seen thousands of these little insects on the wing at times enough to look like a small snowstorm when heavily concentrated. The butterflies are harmless in of themselves but their larvae are not so good for food crops, especially cabbage.

This photo has accurate colour and well focused details in particular the fuzzy area on it`s back, behind the head, looks sort of like a pipe-cleaner wire, lol.Your note is a very good read as well and rounds out this presentation nicely.Thank you for sharing a slice of good old summertime. Bob

Hi Jacqueline,
Nicely contrasting against the leaf, with good clarity on the fine hairs and the antennas.

Hola Jacqueline,

Hello Jacqueline,
a nice picture of a Large White butterly.
The noise doesn't disturb me but I think the butterfly is a bit to bright.
It's pretty sharp with a decent DOF, the butterfly and the leaf stand out nicely from the BG.
I like the composition and POV too.
Well done.
Regards
Gert

Hi Jacqueline!

You present us a simple, yet very pleasant picture of the Large White butterfly, accompanied by interesting notes.

From my point of view, I believe the wings are a little bit overexposed and the result is a loss of many details. I hope you don't mind me having tried to correct this in a workshop.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Jacqueline,
a great dedication to our friend Roberto; a splendid capture of the Large White, very good sharpness and very beautiful natural colours, but the wings are a bit overexposed, a very pleasing composition.
TFS

Hello Jacqueline,
Very nice photo of this butterfly. Indeed a bit overexposed, but Markus corrected it in an excellent way. Very good sharpness and details. Very nice OOF BG and composition.
Have a good weekend,
Peter

Hi Jacqueline,

Here in Venezuela we have some species with a color very similar to this butterfly, and I must say are very difficult to photograph due to their colors, so bright and clear.

I think you handled the exposure perfectly, holding the ISO 200 with f/13 and 1/160s, the butterfly has been photographed as seen directly with the naked eye.

Congratulations, it's a very good job and the characteristics of the species is very well appreciated.

*Very useful note!

TFS

Bonjour Jacqueline,

Hi Jacqueline. Firstly thanks for the interesting notes to go with this bright picture of the butterfly. You have a good contrast between the Large White and the rich green leaves. Taken with fine detail and a good POV so we can see the wing markings. TFS.

Hi Jacqueline.
Pictured subject is simply amazing. Beautiful butterfly on a perfectly reflected leaf looks nicely. Composition of the shot as well as sharpness and details are ultimate. Owing to great smooth BG main subject stands out of it and create impressive 3D effect. My compliments and best regards.

with nice details and composition.

Hello Jacqueline,

Fantastic capture of this beautiful butterfly.
Colours,light and definition are superb.
Good composition.

Hi & Good Morning MF Jacqueline,

A fine close-up capture of a white perfced on a leaf.
The details, POV/DOF, pastel coloured blurred BG and composition are fine.
TFS and have a nice Sunday!
Cheers,

Bayram

Hi Jacqueline,
A beautiful shot on this Large White. The white color is difficult to capture under the bright sunlight. It is a challenge situation as the butterfly normally does not stay still for too long. This is a nice and well seen picture. TFS and have a nice weekend.

Hello Jacqueline,
A fine capture of a male Pieris rapae, the Small White.
Though the white is a little OE, it was taken from a great POV with fine sharpness and set in a pleasing composition.

I wish I had seen this earlier!

The Large White has a more defined black corner of the forewing and lacks the black spot as shown by this male Small White.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan

Ciao Jacqueline, lovely dedication to Roberto, elegant butterfly with wonderful details and splendid sharpness, beautiful natural colors, very well done, have a good Sunday my friend, ciao Silvio

Bonsoir Jacqueline,

Quelle belle capture! Just kidding.
Excellente composition avec quelques beaux détails.
Bon Dimanche,
Adrian

Bonjour Jacqueline,
Amicalement Goldy

Hello Jacqueline,

Fine details in this little fellow!
The colour combination with the cream butterfly on the green background enhances the subject, and the shadow creates a 3D effect...
Well composed presentation!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonsoir Jacqueline.

Philippe.

Jacqueline,
Loved your notes; however, the wings are slightly O/E. Minor issue.
Greetings from
Mario.
