Damselflies are out now for a few weeks. It's still the mating season, and you can see them together very often. It's very easy to identify the CALOPTERYX SPLENDENS male from the female. Better than words, just look here.
Damselflies are very sensible to water quality. You won't see them close to polluted waters. As larvae, they live in aquatic plants for two years before showing how beautiful they are. I'm surprised to see so many this year. Measures taken to reduce water pollution start to bear fruit, I hope.
----------------
How should we interpretate this wing movement the damsel shows from time to time. Is it a kind of love parade to attract females? If somebody has the answer...
-----------------
White spots in the back are light reflections from the river. Shot in Raw mode, converted to JPEG, cropped and autolevels in PSP.
-----------------
Hope you'll like this third flower.

Great shot!
Beautiful colours, very interesting POV and perfect composition.
The focus seems to be a bit soft, but that doesn;r matter much.
I like the photo very much.
WELL DONE!

Salut Jean Michel
La prise de vue est plaisante, belle nettete de ta libellule, c'est la seule que je connaisse qui replie et deploie ses ailes sans s'envoler.
Ta photo est mieux réussie que celle que j'avais posté.
TFS
Amicalement Christophe

What could I say? Your photo is perfect. Absolutely magnificient.
Sarolta

Hi Jean Michel,

This is a fine shot. Well composed, good POV and sharp details. The big white spots behind the damselfly are a bit distracting, but other than that this is a great picture. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Jean-Michel, this is a nice shot. I t has a good atmosphere about it. The narrow DOF is good here although I wish the head was a little sharper. The lighting and composition are excellent.

One school of thought about the flashing is that after mating with the female he does this flash in order to tell her which opivpositing site he is guarding. It may also be a signal to rival males?

Well done.

Fine shot Jean Michel. Beautiful colours and good depth of field. I simply dont know how you guys capture this things. Regards, Rob

Jean Michel, this is just wondrous! I don't know that I've ever seen a better bokeh effect. The large bokeh circles in the background work so nicely with the intricate lines of the insect. Fun stuff!

Hi Jean-Michel, I have no time to write a decent comment. I give to you the well deserved smiley. It is a pretty damselfly.

Thank you for sharing pictures and notes and for the enjoyment which they give to me.
