[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
(And it’s still attached too!). Immediately after hatching, the caterpillar is so small it can barely be seen. It grows very fast, feeding on nothing but milkweed leaves. In 9 to 14 days it is about 2" long and full grown. A caterpillar has 8 pair of legs. The first 3 pair of legs will later become the butterfly's legs.
A monarch caterpillar sheds its skin 5 times during the larval stage, similar to a snake. A new, larger skin is always waiting under the one that is shed.

Very interesting, I have never seen a Monarch caterpillar, even if I have many times seen the butterfly.
Very sharp picture, nice composition.

I never saw it!
I only saw the imago insect (the buttefly).

Hi Gabi. A very nice composition you managed for this beautiful insect. I think your short f value this time was not enough to get it into DOF, otherwise a great image.
Try F8 aperture priority. Our cam works quite nice with low speeds, you can get a good one even at 1/10 handheld with a bit of luck and memory space :) An example HERE.

Hi gabi, and welcome to TN. This is a very nice Cat. I like the composition and strong diagonal. The head is tach sharp showing nice details there. The DOF is too shallow for this critter and given the shutterspeed you used you might have stepped down a bit on the aperture setting to increase the DOF. Well done.

this is very good with the focus on most of the beast. i know how hard it is to get the whole image in perfect focus on a macro shot, so that doesn't bother me. just great.
