[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French]
Acanthus mollis. L.Acanthaceæ. Acanthus, Bärenklau (German), Bear's Breech, Hierba Carnera (Spanish). Synonyms: A. lusitanicus Hort.
Consider to be one of the finest foliage plants for the shrub border, Acanthus should be used with caution for it can easily become a pest - though admittedly a handsome and classical one. Since the explosive pods scatter seed over a wide area and it will regrow from any scrap of root, the plant is hard to eradicate, but it is tough, good for odd rough corners and places where the reseeding can be contained as well as under trees, where not much else will grow. It is used with great effect in Mexico City around the boles of trees that have been ringed by low retaining walls. There, though the tree may be dying because of smog, the Acanthus florishes.
It is very ornamental in winter and spectacular in spring, but summer drought and the effort of seeding wilt it, so that a tidying-up operation is needed in midsummer and, once the spent leaves and stems have been cut back, the site remains bare until autumn. The black background really looks effective, and the lighting is great. I'm wondering if this photo was taken outside? Or, how you managed to do the black background? Very beautiful foliage and interesting flower heads.

Didier, I do enjoy this shot. How did you get this dark bg?

Great pov, very nice contrast. I enjoy composition and colors too.

Intresting shot Didier, did you use flash to render the BG black, it certainly allows the plant to stand out, it would be good to had the shooting details so others can copy what looks to be a very good technic.
on another point I have had several enquiries about wether this plant was a domestic garden flower, I have been able to reasure them that it is found wild in SW europe and NW Africa, it might help things if your note inclued such details, as at the moment it reads like a gardening web site rather than a nature web site.

Bravo Didier,
C'est une très belle composition! J'aime beaucoup ces couleurs, l'opposition entre la blancheur des fleurs et le fond noir. Super!

Hello Didier, another excellent picture. Very interesting plant. Colorful photo, good sharpness and details. Well done.

Hello, Didier.
It's very good plant photo. Very interesting light. Seems like some kind of light painting photo. Maybe some more space for this plant. Especially from the right side.
