Common Moorhen and its chick(Gallinula chloropus)

The female moorhen lays from 5 to 8 smooth and brilliant eggs, broken white or buff clearly punctuated of dark marks often concentrated at the round ends. Incubation lasts 3 weeks. There can be between 2 or 3 layings per year, between April and July. One can see until September vast family groups with young people of big size still nourished by their parents. The chicks, with dark and thin sleeping bag and with zones of red skin on the head, leave the nest immediately. They are often brooded during the first two weeks, especially in cold and wet weather.
