Just before leaving for holidays, I spotted this damsel (I guess a calopteryx splendens female). It was not easy to get on the side, due to vegetation, so I decided to try a front view emphasizing the eyes and the mandibles of this ferocious (that's true, have you seen these with a fly in the mouth after chasing just above the water level?) insect predator. You will notice very small dark biting stings, very similar to those spiders use to inoculate venom.
More than the complete anatomic view ot this elegant insect, often posted, I was seduced by the photographic impact of such a futuristic image. I hope you'll like it too!

The shot is bright and the head well defined which marries well with your perspective here. Great shot.

Hello Jean Michael,
This is a close close-up. I like the composition, but the DoF is a bit shallow. I think you shot it near noon, light is dence at the top of the damselfly. You can get better results at the early morning or late afternoon shots, while you are using the natural light.
Still very much impressed by the composition.
Well done.

Jean-Michel,

Beautiful detail and lighting with a very elegant BG and composition, my friend!
The way of looking of this one reminds me my "mututal curiosity" post. Who is looking at how? Regards, Felipe.

Excellent macro. Good composition, DOF and nice colours. Well done
