This is simply a young shoot of VIBURNUM, starting a new small branch for next spring. According to where you place yourself, you can guess a head with prominent eyes, two sharp-pointed ears and a prominent menton, reminding middle-age gargoyles, or some of the actual science-fiction creatures.
---------------------------------
VIBURNUM (caprifoliacae family) groups about 130 different varieties, many of them cultivated in gardens of Europe, Asia, North America, and most of Pacific Islands. This one is a wild variety, growing on chalky grounds, along a path leading to the fields. With the help of birds, spraying the fruits, there are many of them. Flowers are white, umbelliferous, giving red berries, changing to black in autumn. The latin name means flexible. Thin young branches can be used as natural ligatures. But, most of all, I took this shot because I liked the shape! The early morning light made the rest to enhance it!
