[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French]
The mante with the legs folded up and raised along the body evokes known as one it prayer of a chocolate éclair. But its m?urs is far from corresponding with this image. Camouflaging itself perfectly with the plants on which it is posed, the mante can remain of long moments to the mounting of a prey, its head turning in all the directions. But located once, its target does not have any more any chance: the "prégodiou" is indeed provided with a terrible weapon of hunting: its forefeet. Provided over the entire length with sharp-edged points, they act like grips, the serrations preventing the prey from fleeing. Thus ensured, the mante can with leisure taste its meal, even alive (the record days, it happens that it seizes a second victim while at the same time it did not begin the first). It thus starts with the zone where the nerve centres are present, then the remainder of the body with its mandibles devours.
It happens sometimes that the female decapitates the male at the time of the coupling: contrary to the generally accepted idea, that is not only with its voracity, but is also used to improve fecundation, and to absorb a maximum of food to carry out the best big shot.

The religious mante is not only the mante, even if it is most known: 2000 species populate the world, some measuring more than 15 cm, others pushing the imitation to the extreme (one of them diffuses even a perfume of flower for better attracting its preys!), but all jointly have the fact of being cannibals.

The mante is also remarkable by its laying: its eggs are aligned in a mucous secretion, which hardens to form a brown oothèque, on the stems of the plants. The small ones resemble milked for features miniatures of the adults

Super ! J'aime bien votre cliché, la position descendante de la mante est originale. Belles couleurs vertes sur fond neutre. Bonne PdC et netteté. Compliments Christophe.

Ps : Cela me rappelle mon cliché et son histoire étonnante... Cet insecte me fascine.
