[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Just a sunny shot of a well-known insect before hibernation! Many insects are out of view now. Rendez-vous next year...
The HOVERFLY (syrphidae) family comes into about 200 different species. Lucky you, I wont detail this one. If it isn't the Marmalade fly (UK), it's very close. On the other hand, it's an interesting insect for many reasons. First, a joy for photographers due to short periods of stationary flying between flowers, allowing amazing action shots. Second, a very useful fly, due to their active pollinisation of flowers. They are interested in many flowers. Here, this shot is taken in a meadow, early in the morning and the fly is on a bindweed (convolvus). In our garden, they are mad about honeysuckle (not stupid, these hoverflies, hey!) - Handheld and patience.

Hi Jean Michel, lovely image, maybe the whites are a bit bright but it's not too distracting. The colours and composition are very good.

As for the ID it isn't Episyrphus balteatus (Marmalade fly) it is very likely to be Syrphus ribesii.

Well done.

Nice shot, the highlights are just a little burned out, but everything else is pretty much spot on.

Very nice close-up full of details. Great work. Ditto on the whites. Thanx for sharing.

HI Jean Michel
Beautiful image, like the down looking POV and the flower BG works very well!

Excellent macro, Jean. Sharp and I like the backround.

Beautiful shot, the fly looks very clean and beautiful, but I think autolevels are no good for photos like this one with so much white. To bright for my taste, but the fly very nice seen.

Excellent capture and fabulous close-up detail and colours.
A great macro shot, very well done.

Very nice close-up with great detail. Ditto, Ditto & more Ditto on the whites.

Superb close up, though it's cropped a bit tight for my liking. The black and yellow is so vivid and the burned-out whites is not that distracting. My daughter enjoyed looking at this one to.

A very nice capture.
Excellent composition, nice detail and great colours.
Very effective DoF.
Great work,well done.

I'm impressed with the quality of this picture.
The macro is perfect.
